Northview Academy Cougars Knock Off Seymour 5-2

On an overcast Tuesday afternoon, the Northview Academy Cougars hosted the Seymour Eagles and came away with a 5-2 victory over Coach Kyle Koeneman's Eagles. Northview would send Junior pitcher David York to the mound to face the Eagles, York would deliver an impressive performance, holding the Eagles to only 2 runs on the afternoon on an impressive 77 pitches.
Seymour would go three up, three down in the top of the first inning after York induced two fly balls and a foul tip that was held onto by Cougars catcher Jorge Montanez. The Cougars would come to the plate, facing Seymour's starter Grayson Davis. Northview would get rolling early with a single from York, Drake George would work a four pitch walk. Two pitches later David Sutton would be hit by a pitch, to load the bases for Northview. Montanez would single on a hard hit ball to draw first blood as he scored York from third. The next batter Senior Nick Hickman would land a heavy blow with a one out 2 rbi double to center that would plate George and Sutton to make it 3-0 Cougars. Davis would work out of the inning and leave two Northview runners on base.
Seymour would strike back in the top of the second inning following a Reece Wilson single, who would steal second. With Wilson in scoring position Caden Johnson sent a hard single to left field to score Wilson to make it 3-1 Cougars. The next pitch from York was immediately sent to the center field gap for an double from Tayfur Caldwell that would advance Johnson to third. Austin Brown would fly out to short, before Caden Rhodes would drop down a beautiful sacrifice squeeze bunt to plate Johnson to bring Seymour within 1 run at 3-2. Andrew Hammontree would walk but Elijah Miller would groundout to first to end the threat and inning with Caldwell left 90 feet away at third.
Seymour would get a run back in the bottom of the second after Elijah Elrod worked a 5 pitch walk, Kamdyn Briggs would reach on an error by Davis that allowed Elrod to score from first after the right fielder could not find the ball after the errant throw. Briggs would advance to third on the error and the Cougars were back in business with no outs in the innings. Davis would get two ground balls for out before allowing a 5 pitch walk to Sutton to put runners on the corners for the Cougars. Davis would then induce a fly ball from catcher Montanez to get out of the jam and out of the inning.
Both teams would go three up, three down in the third inning before Seymour would get a base runner in the fourth on a single from Brown but the Eagles couldn't produce anything else in their half of the fourth. Northview would once again go three up, three down in the bottom of the fourth to leave the score at 4-2 Cougars.
Hammontree would start the 5th off with a single for the Eagles, but would be gunned down by Montanez on an attempted stolen base. An ground out from Miller and fly ball from Zac Wood would end the half inning for Seymour. The Cougars would get a base runner as leadoff batter George would be hit by a pitch by new Eagles pitcher Dannen LaVella. Sutton would line out to center before Montanez would single again to center to advance George to second base. Hickman would reach base on a single that allowed both runners to advance their positions to once again load the bases for the Cougars. Coach Daryl Randles would call on Aiden Lockery to pinch hit and he would deliver with a fielder's choice ground out RBI that plated George. The Cougars would leave runners on 2nd and third after Peyton White would ground out to short. Northview would end the fifth inning up 5-2 over the Eagles.
York would work a quick top of the 6th as the Eagles would once again send three to the plate, recording three outs on two fly balls and a strikeout. Northview would once again get a base runner in the bottom of the 6th with another York single but he would be stranded there after LaVella would work out of the inning for Seymour to leave the score at 5-2 Cougars.
York would come out to start the 7th and final inning where he would get a fly ball out from Caldwell to start the inning. Brown would strikeout but was followed by Rhodes, who laced a single into left field to give the Eagles life with two outs. Zake Brown would come in to pinch run for the Eagles catcher, however York was able to induce a game ending ground ball to secod from Hammontree, to give the Cougars the final 5-2 win.
York's final line for the Cougars: CG, 6 H's, 2 R's, 1 BB, 3 K's, 77 pitches
The win moves Northview Academy to 2-3 overall (1-1 district), the Eagles drop to 3-2 (1-1 distrct) following the loss. The Cougars next contest will be on Thursday the 12th at Oliver Springs. The Eagles will next host Watertown on Thursday the 12th .
